INFORMATION FOR REGIONAL CAMPUS STUDENTS

Informational meetings to orient regional campus students who are ready to transfer to Storrs are held at Storrs every spring. These meetings are an opportunity for students to ask questions about academic programs, the transfer process, possible majors, registration, housing, student life, and other issues related to the move to the Storrs campus. Students should obtain and file a Campus Change Form early in the semester when they will complete the necessary number of credits. Students must earn a minimum of 54 credits at their regional campus before transferring to Storrs; the Assistant to the Dean of Students may, on occasion, grant exceptions to thisrule.

 PART ONE: MOVING TO STORRS:

  1. If you have not done so already, declare your CLAS major by completing a Program Change Form. (If you have declared a CLAS major already, fill out the Advisor Assignment form and send it to your department contact at Storrs).
  2. Follow the appropriate procedures to apply for a campus change to and housing at Storrs.
  3. Get to know the campus.  Spend some time with a campus map learning where your classrooms and other important buildings are.
  4. Get to know your professors.  The onus is on you to seek out your professors. However, they all have office hours so that they are available to meet with you.

PART TWO: BEING SUCCESSFUL AT STORRS:

  1. During the first two weeks of classes, make an appointment with your faculty advisor to discuss general education and major requirements.
  2. If you do not know who your advisor is, log onto PeopleSoft to check: SA Self-Service – Learner Services – Academics – View My Advisors
  3. If you find that you do not have an advisor, go to your department to be assigned one.
  4. If, when meeting with your faculty advisor, any issues or concerns come to light, come to the Academic Services Center (423 Whitney Road) to meet with one of the staff.
  5. Make an appointment to meet with your faculty advisor at least a week prior to registration. This way you will have time to find out not only which classes you need, but which are available. You will be competing for courses with many more students at Storrs than at West Hartford and so you need to be prepared to register for courses as soon as PeopleSoft allows.
  6. You also need to check your record at least a week prior to registration to make sure that if you have other holds such as bursar or immunization holds you can have them resolved before it is time to register.

PART THREE: PREPARING TO GRADUATE:

  1. During the semester prior to graduation you should meet with your faculty advisor to make sure that you will be able to graduate the following semester.
  2. Once you have confirmed that you are on track to graduate complete your plan of study and take it to your faculty advisor for a signature.  If you have more than one major you will need a plan of study for each. If you are working towards one or more minors you need to go to the department/s to declare the minor/s.
  3. Follow the instructions of Degree Audit in the Registrar to apply to graduate.

THE TWO MOST IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER ARE:

  1. CONTACT YOUR MAJOR DEPARTMENT AT STORRS TO BE ASSIGNED A FACULTY ADVISOR BECAUSE IT IS YOUR FACULTY ADVISOR WHO ULTIMATELY DECIDES IF YOU WILL GRADUATE OR NOT.
  2. THE ADVISORS AT THE CLAS ACADEMIC SERVICES CENTER CAN HELP YOU RESOLVE GRADUATION ISSUES THAT REQUIRE A DEAN’S SIGNATURE, SO KNOW WHO THEY ARE AND WHERE THEY ARE LOCATED.

Below are the requirements for students to transfer to the Storrs campus to complete a CLAS major:
