INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS PLANNING TO TRANSFER CREDITS TO THE UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT

Many students transfer credits from other institutions either because they are transfer students or because they take courses at external institutions during winter and summer inter-sessions. Below is information on how the transfer process works.

CONTACTING TRANSFER ADMISSIONS

Students wishing to transfer courses from external institutions must do so through the Transfer Admissions office. Transfer Admissions is located in the Tasker building on Hillside Road. You can contact the office at 860-486-3137, or visit the website - http://web.uconn.edu/transfer/.

COURSE EQUIVALENCIES

Transfer Admissions has listed all of the courses (and their UConn equivalent) that the University of Connecticut accepts from external Connecticut universities, colleges and community colleges. You can access the list for each institution at http://web.uconn.edu/transfer/search.php.

POSTING DATES
Transfer credits are evaluated and posted during a six week period beginning on the following dates: January 15, June 15 and September 6. It is important that you have your final transcripts sent to Transfer Admissions prior to these dates so that your credits will be applied to your UConn transcript.

PREAPPROVAL PROCESS FOR TRANSFER CREDITS

There is a new People Soft self-service, paperless process for prior approval of courses.  Students can go to the following site for information on how to obtain preapproval for transfer credits - http://transfer.uconn.edu/transfercredits_uconn.html

APPLYING YOUR TRANSFER COURSES AND CREDITS TO YOUR DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

There are three scenarios with regard to transfer courses:

  • The course is not recognized as meeting the University of Connecticut standards and no credit will be granted.

  • The course meets the University of Connecticut standards but is not one that has a direct UConn equivalent. These courses will be granted generic credit with a 1000 or 2000 course code, rather than 100 or 200 (e.g. BIO 211 – Anatomy and Physiology – at Asnuntuck Community College transfers into UConn as PNB 2501 – Anatomy and Physiology 200 Level.

  • The course meets the University of Connecticut standards and has a direct UConn equivalent. These courses will transfer in with the same number of credits and course code as the UConn course (e.g. SOCI 101 – Introduction to Sociology – at Asnuntuck Community College transfers in to UConn as SOCI 107 – Introduction to Sociology).

CONNECTICUT COMMUNITY COLLEGE-UCONN CLAS GUARANTEED ADMISSION PROGRAM

Students attending Connecitcut Community Colleges who have earned fewer than 16 credits may apply to the Guarenteed Admission program. Click here for information on the program and the eligibility criteria.

TIPS FOR SELECTING COURSES TO TRANSFER TO UCONN:

  • Any course that transfers in with 91300 or 92300 in the course code will fulfill a “W” requirement.

  • Any course that has “L” in the description will fulfill the laboratory requirement in Content Area 3 for Bachelor of Arts students.

  • Students wishing to apply transfer credits to their major requirements need the approval of their faculty advisor and a CLAS dean’s designee in the Academic Services Center.  Only 2000 level transfer courses can be applied to the major requirements.

  • Some majors, such as Psychology, restrict the number of transfer credits that can be applied to major requirements. Check with your faculty advisor and/or the Academic Services Center to determine if your major has such restrictions.
